Despite the relative dead-ness of this site and my relative silence (at least regarding projects) elsewhere, I’m actually working on stuff. In fact, I have some firm plans for the near future.
First and foremost, Ascension Revolution is not dead. It has definitely taken a backseat recently, but I’ll be done this term in a few weeks and I’ll have a lot more time to work on it. I’ve been writing some of the backstory and fleshing out the universe. I’ve also been revisiting the original Ascension, and an updated release is a definite maybe.
I’ve also started work on Ascension 2, which is a classic-styled graphical RPG and the sequel to Ascension. With Ascension 2, I’m not exactly sure how I want to do it. The original plan was to use RPG Maker VX Ace to create a game in the early 90s JRPG style. The idea is to move ahead about ten years in terms of technology with the Ascension series- Ascension was a text RPG, Ascension 2 will be sprite based, Ascension III will be about the level of Morrowind. However, I’ve been looking at early-mid 90s western RPGs, and I’m also considering building something that looks kind of like that, almost certainly on ZDoom. I plan to make a demo of each concept, both to explore working with the engines and to figure out which I like and which you like better. As with Revolution, the preliminary design document will be released as soon as I finish it.
In short, I have a few things which I plan to release in the near future.
- Ascension Revolution: Bastille Day (preview alpha)
- Ascension 2: Debrief (JRPG style demo)
- Ascension 2: Debrief (WRPG style demo)
The release target for all three is July. In the meantime, I will continue to release updates. Afterward, well, we’ll see.
