Ascension III in its current state of development. It doesn’t look like much, but there’s quite a bit going on behind the scenes.
I’ve mentioned Ascension III a few times on this site and elsewhere. I’ve even posted a few screenshots and bits of concept art here and there. But previously, I’ve stated that Ascension III wasn’t happening anytime soon. So, is it?
Yes and no.
I did start working on Ascension III in earnest a few months ago. I was hoping to have at least a technology demonstrator done by the end of the summer, as well as a first draft of the game’s script. In May, I decided to start working on a sequel to Firefighter Simulator (now Firefighter VR). At first that existed alongside Ascension III, but it quickly took over and Ascension III ended up shelved.
Where does Ascension III sit right now? The outline is done, with a storyline, characters, and planned features. The very beginnings of a script exist. I’m using Unity this time, with largely custom scripting on top. Maybe a fifth or a sixth of that is written, mostly concerning save/load and RPG systems. There are a few placeholder assets and a few test scenes. You can walk around, execute a few console commands, go through a door and that’s about it.
So, I did start Ascension III, and I do hope to get back to it in the not-so-distant future. But for the time being, it’s not in development.
I think that clears it up.
