By The Meridiem Gleam is the third game (fourth if you count The Crystal Tower) in the Outliers and Outsiders series.
After getting a lot of unwanted attention saving a Christmas party from terrorists (or possibly just common thieves), Gina and her companions are recruited into a special task force and sent around the world to fight monsters on hostile territory. But it’s not just Shades that are a threat, and if they’re doing this, then other magical girls might be too…
This game was created well into my “stepping back from game dev” period. The original concept was more ambitious but was adapted into something more workable. The shooting mechanics and most of the sprites are carried over from At The Break Of Dawn, but the levels are all new and some of them have unique gameplay. It’s shorter than originally planned, but still longer than the previous entries.
Although it’s not the end of the series, this will likely be the last mainline game for the foreseeable future. The intent was to bring the series to a place where it can pause, although it ended up setting up a lot of new things instead. The development process was somewhat tumultuous but it came together pretty well in the end.
